Despite the fact that the opponents for the match in Belgium are representatives of different levels of European class, not so long ago they crossed paths twice in the group stage of the Champions League. This happened in the 2018/2019 and 2020/2021 seasons. Brugge almost always stubbornly opposes rivals in the elite European tournament, however, with the Dortmund club they did not have a good confrontation. Before the next page of the rivalry between the clubs, bookmakers have identified the guests as favourites for the meeting, offering odds of 2.03 on their victory.

Brugge became champions of their country, ahead of Union St Gillois by one point. After a successful football year, the team sold two key players to England and Germany for a total of €54 million. Having earned a lot of money by Belgian standards for Tiago and Nous, Brugge tried to strengthen a whole group of players, the price of which ranged from three to seven million euros. As a matter of fact, the factor of their own field has been important for Borussia since the end of last season. Then in the last two rounds, the Bumblebees lost 0-3 away to Mainz and beat Darmstadt 98 4-0 at home.
