Amed over the last fifteen years has grown from a backwater club of Turkey's fourth-tier league into a representative of the country's elite division. Although the current season is the team's first in the Süper Lig, Amed is fairly well known in Turkey. And this hasn't been without politics. The club's fans identify themselves through Kurdish identity, and displaying such symbols and behavior is not welcomed in Turkish football. In the previous edition of the country's second-tier division, Amed finished second. Moreover, toward the end of the season the team lost its form, which almost cost it the right to direct promotion to the Süper Lig. To strengthen the squad before the top-tier matches, Amed spent €9 million to bolster the lineup, signing players from Hoffenheim, Genk, Nantes and Standard Liege. Of course, not all of them were top-tier. Sor, Orban, Bates, Lafont already in the first round earned starting spots and thanked the coach with a 3:0 victory over Erzurumspor. Meanwhile, in the second round Amed were brought down to earth. Kocaelispor, on its home ground, played better than the division's newcomer - 2:0. Trabzonspor stands on a different rung of the football hierarchy. The team has not left the elite division for more than half a century, and in 2022 it became Turkish champions, intervening in the feuds among Istanbul clubs. The latest transfer window was a milestone for Trabzonspor. Almost half the city welcomed Mohamed Salah here, who after Liverpool decided not to head to Saudi Arabia, but stay in Europe. The club also signed Fabinho and spent more than €50 million on new players. Unfortunately, Fatih Tekke did not manage to fit the newcomers into Trabzonspor's playing structure. This was reflected in a very sensitive area for Turks—the European cups. In the Europa League qualifying playoff, the team lost twice to Ferencvaros, and the trip to Hungary turned into a real nightmare - 0:4. After this fiasco Tekke tried to resign, but the club's management did not accept it, stressing that they were not willing to discuss emotional decisions. After what happened in the last few days, Trabzonspor is obliged to apologize to its fans with a championship victory.
