In the match of the 2nd round of the French Championship, Lille will play at home against Monaco. This is the central match of the entire round, and it will help determine the ambitions of these clubs, which traditionally aim for places in the Champions League. Lille and Monaco started the championship with bright matches. The Monégasques confidently defeated Le Havre at home with a score of 3:1, showcasing vibrant attacking football. Lille's start was equally impressive, as they drew 3:3 away against Brest. During the match, the "dogs" were leading 2:0, then allowed their opponent to equalise, went ahead again, but the game ended in a draw. This reflects Lille's strong attacking potential but also reveals problems in defence that the club was unable to resolve due to the loss of several defensive players.

In the early 2020s, matches between Lille and Monaco were open and high-scoring. However, in the previous two seasons, goals were hard to come by. Two out of four games ended in a goalless draw, one match saw the Monégasques win 1:0, while in another Lille came out on top 2:0. In the upcoming match, this not-so-high-scoring streak is expected to end. Both teams are displaying open and attack-oriented football at the start of the season, while also lacking a cohesive and reliable defence, which will likely have an impact. Issues with the health of several players from both Lille and Monaco are adding to the instability. This uncertainty will introduce chaos and mistakes in defence.
