Forecast
The Hungarian team will avenge the defeat in the first match.
The football club Diósgyőr, after last season, won the Hungarian championship for the fifth time in its more than a century-long history. Considering that the last time it won such a trophy was in 2013, the current generation of players has no experience of competing in the Champions League qualifiers. At the same time, last year Diósgyőr, as the fourth-placed team of Hungary for the 2024/2025 season, tested European football pitches in the Conference League qualifiers, where it reached the final stage, losing to Rapid Vienna. Interestingly, in the second and third qualifying rounds the Hungarians defeated Pyunik and AIK on aggregate after losing the first leg. With Rapid, however, they suffered the ultimate defeat after winning the opening leg of the tie. Víkingur Reykjavík has been winning the Icelandic championships at intervals of once every two to three years. Since 2020 the Icelandic club has missed only one European season, but has only once managed to reach the main group stage of a continental tournament. In 2025, after a comparatively successful performance in the overall phase of the Conference League, the team participated in the Round of 32. At the same time, in the previous edition of this tournament Víkingur progressed through two rounds and was eliminated in the third, not managing to overcome Danish Brøndby in a unique fashion. At home the Icelanders beat their opponents 3:0, but away they were crushed by an even larger margin — 0:4. From the described statistics, one can note that the Hungarians last year were excellent at coming from behind to win in home games, while the islanders failed to hold on to a three-goal lead away. The first leg between the teams was dominated by Víkingur. Diósgyőr chose a defensive tactic and successfully carried it out until the 90th minute, when the Icelanders nevertheless scored the winning goal, 1:0. The match statistics indicate the home club's total dominance, but in Hungary a completely different game is expected. The Hungarian squad has a total transfer value three times higher than that of the Icelanders. Moreover, the home advantage will be fully utilized by Diósgyőr players, who this time will play as the leading side and win.
