One thing is constant in Moldovan football - the dominance of the football club Sheriff. The undisputed champion of the country, has won both the National Division and the Super League, with only a little competition from Petrocube. Sheriff started the current Champions League qualification with a rather tough encounter against Farul. The Romanian club managed to defeat the Moldovan champions on their home ground, scoring the only goal of the match on 56 minutes. A week later in Tiraspol, Sheriff won with a similar scoreline, having decided the winner of the duel in extra time. There the experience of the Moldovan team played a decisive role, expressed in two goals of the hosts - 3:0.

In May this year, Maccabi won its third consecutive title. The Haifa-based club again beat Hapoel Be'er Sheva and teammates from Tel Aviv. Bookmakers have identified the visitors as favourites for the upcoming encounter, offering odds of 2.48 on their victory.

Last Saturday, Maccabi won the first match of the national season, having squeezed Beitar in the match for the Israeli Super Cup. In this meeting, Bachar's wards again lost the first half, as in the game against Hamrun, proving the advantage in the very end of the main time. The Israeli club has some advantage in terms of personnel potential, but it is unlikely to play a decisive role in Tiraspol.
