We think that both teams will focus on defense in Berlin
In the German capital, the 17th round of the Bundesliga will be an important encounter for both sides. Last season, Hertha finished 16th in the league and had to prove their worth in the elite German division in a tie against the third team in the Second Bundesliga. The current season so far shows a lack of progress in the Berlin club's game and obliges them to take urgent action - half of the championship is almost over. Wolfsburg won the German league title 15 years ago and, more recently, represented the country in the Europa League and Champions League. The team is ambitious and will be keen to build on last week's stunning result, and extend their impressive winning streak. The bookmakers were unable to confidently pick a favourite, with the odds tilting slightly in favour of the visitors.
After 16 rounds of play, Hertha are sitting in the relegation zone, with only poor Schalke behind them. In the first part of the season the capital team proved to be an unstable team, whose black series was replaced not even by light ones, but by gray ones. On the other hand, in Berlin, Sandro Schwartz's charges play at a higher quality level. Before the last home game of the first leg, Hertha lost only to Bayern and Borussia Dortmund at home. Both grandees were defeated by a one-goal margin. This fact was one of the key factors in the bookmakers' decision to offer roughly equal odds for the opponents.
Wolfsburg have failed to make a good start to the current season. In the first five rounds, the Wolves managed to pick up just two points. After that, the team stopped losing, and since the end of October they turned their winless streak into a winning one. Since then, Bochum, Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, Hoffenheim and, after the World Cup break, Freiburg. And the latter, as the second team in the Bundesliga, managed to concede six unanswered goals at the Volkswagen Arena.
There seems to be a gulf between the opponents' form, but Hertha will try to dry out the game on home soil and have some success. The match is unlikely to be overly productive.
